Our Company – Joss Technical – Lethbridge Alberta

Joss Technical was established in 1985 by two brothers; Floyd and Wayne Joss: Two farm boys who developed a keen interest in high performance in their early teens. Both pursued post secondary disciplines in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Joss Technical Ltd. was initially established for the purpose of manufacturing Natural Gas Fired Internal Combustion Engines for the Southern Alberta Irrigation Industry. At the time, there were no domestic manufacturers to supply the engine demands of this industry.

Major manufacturers Cat, Cummins, and Wakasha had been producing Natural Gas Fired Engines for nearly forty years for use in the Oil and Gas sector. Most applications were 200BHP plus. Our local Irrigation Industry power applications, for the most part, were less than 150BHP. Most of the lower horsepower engines available, prior to 1985, were multi-use gasoline engines, externally modified for use with natural gas.

The Joss Brothers were convinced that there was room in the industry for innovations in function and efficiency. They had first hand experience with irrigation engines. Here was an opportunity to build a product specifically for one purpose and use. So they did. They combined their Farm and Engineering backgrounds to produce fuel efficient and user friendly Engine Packages.

In 1988, Wayne purchased Floyd’s share of the Company, becoming the sole owner of Joss Technical Ltd.

In 1989 Joss Technical Ltd.responded to a demand for engine packages to serve the Oil and Gas Industry; welcomed addition to the ongoing irrigation engine activity of the Company.

Disaster struck in January of 1999 and the Company suffered a major loss by fire.

This set back sent the Company in a new direction. Joss responded to a growing demand for larger than stock cubic inch Street/Strip engines; more commonly known as STROKERS. The water brake dyno once designed for commissioning industrial engines received more tooling to accommodate the testing of the performance engine packages. Engines that in the past were developed for Wayne’s own personal use were now made available to the performance enthusiast. In 2006, a chassis dyno was installed to compliment the performance capabilities of the Company.
